ABOUT DR. JENNIFER BRAZZELL

Dr. Jennifer Brazzell is a distinguished veterinary pathologist who currently serves as the Head of Anatomic Pathology at IDEXX BioAnalytics, a position she has held since May 2021. She is double board-certified in veterinary clinical and anatomic pathology, showcasing her extensive expertise in both fields.

Jennifer's journey in veterinary pathology began during her third year of veterinary school, where she developed a passion for clinical pathology. After completing her veterinary degree, she practiced as a veterinarian for two years to gain practical experience before pursuing a residency in clinical pathology at the University of Minnesota. During this time, she also started a PhD, which she later paused due to personal reasons.

Her career path took a  turn when she transitioned into anatomic pathology, completing a residency and a Master's of Veterinary Science. Jennifer initially aimed to return to diagnostic pathology but was presented with an opportunity to build a niche in research pathology. Since 2012, she has focused on preclinical research, working with a wide range of species from rodents to nonhuman primates, and contributing to the development of new drugs and treatments.

Jennifer is known for her problem-solving skills and her ability to interpret complex laboratory data to diagnose illnesses and understand disease processes. She collaborates closely with scientists, researchers, and veterinarians to provide valuable insights that advance both human and animal health.

Her personal experience with cancer has deepened her appreciation for the impact of animal research on medical advancements. Jennifer is passionate about ethical considerations in animal research and is confident in the rigorous oversight provided by institutional animal care and use committees.

In her role at IDEXX BioAnalytics, Jennifer continues to explore new methodologies, including the integration of AI and advanced molecular techniques, to enhance the field of veterinary pathology.
